Devonta Pollard commits to Alabama
Alabama basketball and head coach Anthony Grant received their first and only commitment for the 2012 class just in time, and it’s a big one.
Devonta Pollard, a 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward, announced today that he will be signing with the Crimson Tide and will be eligible to play in the upcoming 2012-2013 season. He chose Alabama ahead of Texas, Georgetown, Missouri and LSU among others.
247 Sports rates Pollard as a five-star prospect, the eighth-best small forward and 26th overall prospect in the class of 2012. Rivals.com calls Pollard a five-star prospect, seventh-best at his position and 22nd-best overall.
Alabama basketball gets commitment from 6-foot-9 power forward
After a tough end to the season, followed by the departures of Tony Mitchell and Charles Hankerson, the Alabama basketball team got some welcome news today. Jimmie Taylor, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Greensboro, Ala., committed to the Tide, according to al.com.
Taylor, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound prospect, averaged 9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.4 blocked shots per game last season for Greensboro East as a junior and established himself as one of the state’s top players, earning First Team All-State honors at the 3A level.
Taylor helped lead his Greensboro squad to the 3A state title in 2011 as a sophomore.
Taylor becomes Alabama’s second commitment for head coach Anthony Grant’s class of 2013. The forward will get a chance to compete for a spot on the depth chart. The Tide is thin in the front court with the departure of Mitchell and JaMychal Green, and currently does not have any commitments for the class of 2012.
Taylor is the No. 30 player in the Rivals150 for the class of 2013, and is not ranked nationally, at his position, or in the state of Alabama by 247 Sports.
